The Two Witnesses at the end of all time

 Two Witnesses of Rev 11:3-13,

Rev 3:12  Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
In Rev 3:12 there is mention of a city descending out of heaven from God, the "New Jerusalem" this is also the "Holy city" tread under foot for forty and two months by Gentiles,  [3.5 years] Rev11:2.
The Two Witnesses shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth, [also 3.5 years] Rev:11:3.
So it does appear there is a sect of people, Strongs Greek #1484:... a tribe; specifically a foreign (non-Jewish) one (usually by implication pagan)... [gentiles], that lay waste to the court outside the temple at the same time the Two Witnesses arrive on the scene. (It must be made clear this temple is the one in the Holy City which came down from heaven in the New Jerusalem mentioned in the above verse Rev 3:12, not a man made temple such as people are currently attempting to build.)
The time frame for this has been speculated as at the end of the church age, near the time when Christ returns for His people, the called out ones, the ecclesia if you will.

This time frame does not fit from evidence given!

Rev11:7 states "the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit... shall overcome them, and kill them". [The Two Witnesses]
Rev 20:1-3 states Satan is cast into the bottomless pit for a thousand years, but must be loosed for a little season at the end of the thousand years.
Rev 20:5 states this happens at the end of the first Resurrection.
Rev 20:7 also states Satan will be loosed from his prison after a thousand years has expired.

Rev 20:1  And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
Rev 20:2  And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
Rev 20:3  And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season...

Rev 20:5  But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
Rev 20:6  Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
Rev 20:7  And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison...

Rev 11:13 states there was a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand. If seven thousand men represent one tenth of the city (New Jerusalem) the whole of the city can be understood to be ten times that amount or 70000 thousand people in the city at that time.
The present population of Jerusalem (2012) is 801,000 people, moreover according to Baedeker's Guide, Jerusalem's population was at 70000 with 45000 Jews, 15000 Christians, 10000 Muslims, in a 1911 report. By population alone the probability of the two witnesses arriving any time soon is very low.

Rev 11:1  And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.
Rev 11:2  But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.
Rev 11:3  And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
Rev 11:4  These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
Rev 11:5  And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
Rev 11:6  These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
Rev 11:7  And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
Rev 11:8  And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
Rev 11:9  And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.
Rev 11:10  And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.
Rev 11:11  And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.
Rev 11:12  And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.
Rev 11:13  And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.

Scripture further tells us Yesu will come for His people (Bride if you will) as a thief, it does not center on Jerusalem, but in fact the entire world will be affected by it. An aspect quite different from what is taking place at the time the two witnesses make their entrance onto the scene.
Rev 16 relates to much world turmoil near the time of deliverance, indeed with New York City referred to as Babylon and split into three separate parts. All of this at a different point in time then that  of the two witnesses.

Rev 3:3  Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.

Rev 16:15  Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

In closing it can be understood there is approximately a one thousand year period of time from the first resurrection until the appearance of the two witnesses mentioned in Rev 11:3, many Bible Scholars and theologians have speculated about the identity of the two witnesses, some say Enoch and Elijah, others Moses and Elijah, whom both Moses and Elijah have been purveyors of such carnage in previous times, however by Biblical description Enoch and Elijah both having been translated and having not tasted death as yet, come to mind.

Many Blessings GEO.
